It is with very mixed feelings that I write this note. Pride, gratitude, sadness, uncertainty, and a sense of achievement, all come to mind.
I am immensely proud of my entire family for the dedication, loyalty, and damn hard work they have displayed during the years of operation. The difficulties of conducting business in a shrinking industry has been trying to say the least, however, no matter the challenge they pushed on with a strong ‘can do’ attitude. The success of Woolerina has been the people and their attitude to the product they produced - any challenge was always met with a determination to succeed. I am immensely grateful to have such a caring family and wonderful staff who have supported me to bring my vision to fruition. I would also extend this gratitude to the people in the entire pipeline from woolgrowers, early-stage processors, spinners, knitters and dyers who shared in my vision to manufacture a quality product in the best natural fibre.
Once our product specifications and sampling had been proven, the difficult task of marketing Woolerina began. The recognition for our brand was slow to begin, however once ‘the word’ spread, we came in contact with so many people from around Australia and from around the world. Many of these contacts have become friends and have displayed an immense loyalty to Woolerina.
I believe our philosophy of keeping things simple, attention to detail, constant monitoring and not accepting second best, has been the success of our brand. Starting with the ‘right wool’ and monitoring all stages of production, brought the quality final product to fruition.
Whilst we are sad to be closing the chapter on 20 years of Woolerina, this is the right decision for our family. The closure will allow Penny, Pippa and myself to move to the next chapter of our respective lives. Pen and Pip have been involved in Woolerina for almost half their lives and me, well, it’s been over 50 years since I joined the wool trade as a trainee wool buyer - a trade I have loved from day one.
My heartfelt thanks go firstly to my late loving wife Robbie, and two wonderful children, Pen and Pip who have supported me through many highs and lows. Secondly to the very dedicated staff, my many close personal friends and industry colleagues. Finally, to each and every customer who has supported me personally and the Woolerina brand as a whole, I say thank you.
